Guardant Net network dongles can operate in any local networks with TCP/IP interface.
Important information
In obsolete versions of the Guardant Net software, the NetBIOS protocol was also supported. When the use of this protocol is necessary, see the Guardant software and documentation for versions 5.4 and lower.
However, one should note that Guardant Net server is a Win32 application, so it must be loaded on the server or workstation that is running under Windows (or in the wine@etersoft environment under Linux).
Without a tuned TCP protocol, the dongle’s server returns an error of type “protocol not found”.
The NetBIOS command emulation through WinSock is used to operate on TCP/IP. On a higher level TCP/IP is presented as a separate NetBIOS LANA (a.k.a. TCP-LANA), which can be used for calling commands with NetBIOS semantics.
The Guardant network software does not set limitations on its operation within the TCP/IP protocol. The client’s network availability may be interfered with only by the settings of network firewalls, routers, and other equipment, as well as network security policy settings.
Thus, the operation of Guardant Net over the Internet is possible (remote branches, corporate VPN), however, this capability is theoretical and has not been thoroughly tested.
Supporting Several Adapters and Network Interfaces
All Guardant Net network software products are designed with the capability to concurrently work with several network interfaces and network adapters. Each ‘network interface – adapter’ pair is supplied with a unique number and is called LANA (LAN Adapter).
