Restrict the number of application launches

/DCA

Dongle type:

Local dongles

Description:

The procedure of limiting the number of application launches consists of the following mandatory steps:

  1. Set the autoprotection with the /DCA and other required options.
  2. Launch the GrdUtil.exe dongle programming utility, load the required mask file, set the required number of launches using an algorithm’s counter (AES or GSII64) as described in the Programming of the application’s operating time section. Write the mask into the dongle.
Now the algorithm’s counter will decrement on each application launch.
  3. After the counter reaches zero, the application becomes inoperative. Use remote dongle update to increase the number of application launches.

Important information

  1. A multiple call of the dongle’s algorithm occurs in the process of autoprotection. If the dongle is programmed before setting autoprotection, the launch limit will diminish. For this reason it is advised to adhere to the aforementioned sequence of steps while setting the limit for the number of launches.
  2. If the same hardware algorithm of the dongle limits the number of launches of several applications, each application will decrement the same counter. For example, if a protected application consists of two modules A and B, and the algorithm counter contains 5, a user who launched A three times will be able to launch B only twice.
  3. The /T and /DCA options are incompatible, since they use the same algorithm counter.

Example:

NwKey32.exe /GS3S=3:8 /DСA MyProg.exe

MyProg.exe will be bound to the Guardant Sign. Number of application’s launches will be restricted to the value specified in the algorithm #3 counter.
